About Brownfields...

Brownfields are real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant. Cleaning up and reinvesting in these properties takes development pressures off of undeveloped, open land, and both improves and protects the environment.

Brownfields Team Analyzes Competitiveness of Region 10 in 2008 ARC Grants
The Region 10 Brownfields Team reviewed the 2008 Assessment, RLF, and Cleanup (ARC) Grant process for a report to the region’s brownfields and land revitalization community. During 2008 there were 26 proposals submitted for ARC Grant funding and six were selected. The team and many grant applicants expressed concern about the trend of fewer grants being awarded to Western states. ARC Grants have become increasingly competitive nationally. In an informal report, "Region 10 Competitiveness in ARC Grant Competition (PDF) (3 pp. 32K)," the Brownfields Team reviewed the grant selection process and committed to a goal of more competitive proposals from Region 10 in the 2009 ARC Grant cycle. The report outlines an initial schedule of outreach and training events. The fact sheet (PDF) (1 pp. 17K) gives a quick synopsis of the report and findings.
