8.BRIEF PARTIAL DELETION NARRATIVE:
This proposal for partial deletion pertains to the soil unit of the Lakewood Superfund Site, located off Interstate 5, south of Tacoma, Washington in Pierce County. The soil unit comprises all contaminated soil/sludge on the Plaza Cleaners (a dry cleaner) property, which was the source of the soil and ground-water contamination at the site. The site boundary, including the plume of contaminated ground water, is predominantly residential to the north of the Burlington Northern Railroad tracks and commercial/ light industrial along Pacific Highway. Residential property lies to the east, and McChord Air Force Base to the southeast of the site. The soil unit, however, is confined to an area on the Plaza Cleaners property. This portion of the site is recommended for delisting because EPA has implemented all appropriate response actions to remediate the contaminated soil/ sludge to levels considered protective of human health and the environment.
The geographic coordinates of the corners of the polygon which bounds the site, as well as the coordinates which bound the area proposed for delisting, were determined in the field by EPA Region 10 staff using Global Positioning Systems technology. Coordinates should be accurate with five meters. The GPS coordinates were converted into ARC/INFO for preparation of site maps.

6.What method was used to identify the NPL site and deleted portion coordinates? Coordinates given in Sections 2.4 and 2.5 were determined by the use of Global Positioning Systems technology by EPA Region 10 staff. Locations of various monitoring wells and the boundaries of the Soil Unit were measured using GPS receivers and the field-data was subsequently differentially corrected for improved accuracy. All data extraction and manipulation was performed using ARC/INFO Geographic Information Systems software.
