Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations
EPA is responsible for implementing the NPDES program for CAFOs in both Idaho and Alaska. Alaska will be authorized, eventually, to administer the program. Idaho has not requested authorization to run the NPDES program. Idaho has state regulations and a state CAFO program that EPA works closely with.
Washington and Oregon are authorized to administer the NPDES program in their respective states, including NPDES permitting, inspection, and follow up enforcement at Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFO). EPA still maintains the authority to inspect facilities and issue follow up compliance orders.
