On 5 September 2007, The US EPA was notified concerning two confirmed cases of cutaneous anthrax on Route 37 in Danbury, CT. The naturally occuring anthrax appears to have originated from imported animal hides. A private citizen used the animal hides as drum skins in the assembly process of making traditional African drums in his backyard shed. The Site is located in a semi-rural residential area of Danbury.
Site operations are being directed by a Unified Command including US EPA, the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (CTDEP), the Connecticut Department of Public Health (CTDPH), and the City of Danbury.
