Description

This 72 acre site was formerly occupied by Century Brass, a copper and brass alloy tubing manufacturer. Past practices resulted in hazardous metal hydroxide sludge being disposed on-site in two unlined surface impoundments, which are scheduled for clean closure certification by the CT DEP. This property has been abandoned and is currently moving toward redevelopment with assistance from the CT DEP, EPA Brownfields and EPA TSCA Programs.

Current Status

In accordance with the Regulations of Connecticut State Agencies, Section 22a-449(c)-105(h)(5)(A), a schedule for investigation and remediation of this site was submitted to the CT DEP on October 14, 2003. The proposed schedule, which ensures completion of investigations in two years and initiation of remediation within three years, was submitted on behalf of the Town of New Milford by the Licensed Environmental Professional (LEP) assigned to this site. As a result of recent investigations and soil removals by the Town, on December 16, 2004 the CT DEP determined that Current Human Exposures and Groundwater Releases are under control.
