This 25 acre industrially zoned site has been used as a manufacturing facility beginning in 1861 until the early 1990's when it closed. Historical use of the site includes manufacture of lead oxide, pigments, textile dyes, adhesives, fire fighting chemicals, and other specialty items. Zeneca performed Corrective Action activities voluntarily between 1995 and 2003. In 2003, Zeneca and EPA signed a Consent Order which requires Zeneca to complete a RCRA Faclity Investigation (RFI) and cleanup contamination at the site. Over the past decade Zeneca has demolished several buildings, removed contaminated soils and sediments from several areas on-site, and continues to investigate the extent of contamination on and off-site and evaluate appropriate remedial measures.

Current Status

During the spring and summer of 2015, Zeneca has been conducting numerous field activities in order to fill the remaining data gaps, which were identified by EPA. This final round of investigations include the installation and sampling of shallow, intermediate, and deep groundwater monitoring wells, the performance of numerous soil borings, and collection of soil, surface water, and sediment samples. Zeneca expects to complete these investigations and submit detailed reports by late 2015 or early 2016.
