Description

Zeneca Specialties, Dighton MA. The 25 acre industrially zoned site has been used as a manufacturing facility beginning in 1861 until the early 1990's when it closed. Historical use of the site includes manufacture of lead oxide, pigments, textile dyes, adhesives, fire fighting chemicals and other specialty items. Zeneca performed Corrective Action activities voluntarily between 1995 and 2003. In 2003, Zeneca and EPA signed a Consent Order which requires Zeneca to complete a RCRA Faclity Investigation (RFI) and cleanup contamination at the site. Over the past decade Zeneca has demolished several buildings, removed contaminated soils and sediments from several areas on-site, and continues to investigate the extent of contamination on and off-site and evaluate appropriate remedial measures. Zeneca submitted the Revised DRAFT Supplemental RCRA Facility Investigation RFI Report in August 2010, the Supplemental RCRA Facility Investigation Addendum in October 2010, the Media Cleanup Standards Proposal in December 2010, and the Corrective Measures Study Report in June 2011. EPA issued final comments on these reports in 2013.
