Current Status
Westbrook, ME has used the EPA Brownfields funds to address its Riverwalk Downtown Revitalization Plan. Several key properties were identified, and assessed. Phase I reports were submitted for 942 Main Street property, the Riverwalk Greenway footprint, 25 Bridge Street/53 Dana Court, Saccarrapa Park, the " former lagoon" property, the former Unitrobe property, and Bicentennial Park. Based on Phase I assessment, a feasibility report was prepared for the Riverwalk/Greenway. The "former lagoon" property and the Bicentennial Park area were determined to not need further environmental assessment work. A final Phase II and feasibility study was performed for the 25 Bridge Street/53 Dana Court property. Developer Tim Flannery purchased the property, remediated the property, and constructed a multi-story office building and parking garage in the downtown area. (Please see link to the success story below). The original 2000 Assessment grant has closed and work has begun with the 2004 Brownfields Assessment funds. As of March 2006 a Phase I ESA has been completed on the Saccarappa Park parcel.
