Description
The Ahlstrom Dexter, Main Plant is situated on a 46 acre parcel along the Connecticut River. The facility manufactures speciality papers and paper products and is regulated to treat, store and dispose of hazardous waste. In 1992 Ahlstrom Dexter signed a Consent Decree to address a number of environmental issues including RCRA Closures and a facility investigation. Discussions regarding additional site clean-up remains on-going between Ahlstrom Dexter and the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
Current Status
On March 18, 2004 the CT DEEP approved a Corrective Action/Property Transfer Program, Characterization Workplan and schedule. On June 19, 2008, Ahlstrom Dexter finalized a Remedial Action Plan (RAP) that outlines remaining cleanup work required for the facility. The RAP was finalized at the completion of a public comment period.
