Using a portion of EPA’s Site Assessment Demonstration grant, the City of Bridgeport performed a site evaluation at the former Jenkins Valve site. Based upon this evaluation, the Zurich Re corporation stepped in and invested $11 million to cleanup and redevelop the site, which is now home to a new ballpark and arena, home to the Bridgeport Bluefish baseball team and Bridgeport Sound Tigers hockey team, increasing civic pride, creating new revenue and numerous new jobs for the community.

The City was awarded an additional $400,000 for their Revolving Loan Fund in January, 2005. The money will be used to support cleanup and development at the 1558 Barnum Street site.

The $600,000 Assessment Grant was closed on October 25, 2004.
