The site of a former mattress factory in Somerville is now home to a 97-unit VNA assisted living facility and health center for low to moderate income seniors. Under their Brownfields pilot, the City completed a site assessment at the site and also used an innovative environmental stop-loss insurance program to underwrite potential cleanup cost overruns.

After completing site investigations using the Brownfield assessment funding, a Head Start facility has been constructed at 29 Allen Street and was opened in March 2005.

After using assessment and cleanup grant funds, a community garden/passive park was completed at 30 Allen Street and dedicated in September 2007.

After using assessment and cleanup grant funds, a community path park was completed at 112A Central Street and dedicated in September 2008.
