Description
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has received $4,291,663 in EPA Brownfields funding for their state voluntary cleanup program and for state-led Targeted Brownfields Assessments (TBAs).
Current Status
Maine DEP has used their Targeted Brownfields Assessment (TBA) funding on projects including Edwards Manufacturing in Augusta, Apollo Tanning in Camden, Bangor Hydro Substation in East Machais, the Smelt Hill Dam in Falmouth, and the Burt Company site in Portland.
After DEP completed a site assessment at the Bangor Hydro Substation in East Machais, the Salmon Commission took ownership of the property and is creating new public access and educational displays.
As a result of a Targeted Brownfields Assessment performed by DEP, the city of Portland has taken ownership of the former Burt Company site and has constructed new athletic fields on the property.
