Title:MEDICAL WASTE TREATMENT TECHNOLOGIES
RCRA Online Number:14142
Date:02/19/1997
To:Yelvington
From:Cotsworth
Organization of Recipient:Imagination Medical, Inc.
Description: Neither EPA nor OSHA approve or endorse treatment technologies for medical waste.Only devices that use chemicals and claim antimicrobial activity are required to register with EPA under FIFRA for a label claim. Medical devices must be approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before they are marketed or sold. EPA has proposed air emission standards for new and existing medical waste incinerators, but no federal regulations state that combustion is the only acceptable treatment method for medical waste. The disposal of medical waste is regulated at the state level.
