Title:ESTABLISHMENT OF MEDICAL WASTE REGULATIONS
RCRA Online Number:14374
Date:09/24/1999
To:Pombo
From:Cotsworth
Organization of Recipient:U.S. House of Representatives
Description: Under the Medical Waste Tracking Act (MWTA) of 1988, EPA created a two-year regulatory program which tracked transportation of medical waste from cradle to grave. Based on information collected during the demonstration program, EPA concluded that medical waste presents more of an occupational concern than a generalized environmental concern. OSHA regulates occupational exposure to blood and certain other body fluids (29 CFR 1910.1030). OSHA has proposed standards to regulate occupational exposure to tuberculosis.
