BOSTON - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced that work has stopped for the winter at the Centredale Manor Restoration Project in North Providence, R.I. Before winter weather impeded work progress, approximately 900 feet of the tailrace were reconstructed and capped. Work will resume in the spring to complete reconstruction and capping of the remaining 150 feet of the tailrace.
This phase of the cleanup, which focuses on reconstruction of the tailrace (an industrial canal) behind Centredale Manor, began in the fall and has been conducted by the potentially responsible parties at the site. EPA has been overseeing the work.
Under EPA oversight, Loureiro Engineering Associates of Milford, CT, the contractor hired by the responsible parties to undertake the construction work, completed the following key elements of the cleanup plan:
