WASHINGTON – Tuesday, October 29th, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)Administrator Gina McCarthy and National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Director Linda Birnbaum will kick off a conference celebrating 15 years of children's health research. The conference will highlight the progress made over more than a decade of children's research and the benefits of a more sustainable and healthy environment for children.
Currently, there are 16 EPA/NIEHS funded Children's Environmental Health and Disease Prevention Research Centers (Children's Centers) across the nation researching how environmental, genetic, and epigenetic components, as well as how social and cultural factors, may be linked to many of today's most pressing children's health concerns, including diseases such as asthma, autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, neurodevelopmental deficits, childhood leukemia, diabetes, and obesity.
