PHILADELPHIA (Oct. 24, 2011) - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Office of Criminal Enforcement, Forensics and Training announced that David G. McLeod, Jr., a 17 year EPA veteran, has been selected as the Special Agent in Charge of its Criminal Investigation Division (CID) Area Office in Philadelphia. McLeod will supervise environmental investigations throughout EPA’s mid-Atlantic Region, which encompasses Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

EPA’s criminal enforcement program was established in 1983 and is integral to the agency’s overall work. CID’s mission is to investigate allegations of the most egregious violations of federal environmental statutes, and to assist the U.S. Department of Justice in the prosecution of individuals and corporations charged with criminal offenses.

An Area Office, under the supervision of a Special Agent in Charge, is located in each of EPA’s ten regional offices, with smaller resident offices in several dozen other locations across the country.

“David brings a vast wealth of criminal enforcement experience and supervisory skills to this position,” said Doug Parker, Acting Director of EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division in Washington, D.C. “He will continue to collaborate with our federal and state law enforcement and regulatory partners to protect the public and the environment throughout Region 3.”

“I am humbled and privileged to lead such an awesome team here in the Mid-Atlantic States,” said McLeod. “Our team remains steadfast in delivering thoroughly investigated cases for prosecution so that we may hold environmental criminals accountable and protect the American people and the environment.”

McLeod joined EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division in 1994. Prior to being named Special Agent in Charge of the Area Office in Philadelphia, he served as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the New York Area Office and as the Resident Agent in Charge of the Jackson, MS Office. McLeod has served 21 years in the Armed Forces. He currently is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force Reserve and works as a Special Agent for the Office of Special Investigations. Previously, he served as a Security Forces Commander and Logistics Officer in the Air National Guard and served in the United States Coast Guard as an Intelligence Officer and International Law Enforcement Team Leader. McLeod holds a Masters of Arts Degree, with Honors, in Business and Organizational Security Management.
