Denver, Colo., Jan. 3, 2007 -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is providing notice that it is soliciting public comments on a Draft Underground Injection Control (UIC) Permit that will authorize injection of steam to produce oil from the Uintah Formation in the Antelope Creek oilfield on the Uintah and Ouray Reservation. The public comment period on this Draft Permit will end on January 16, 2007.

Initially, the applicant Petroglyph Energy Company, intends to construct and operate two test wells to determine the economic feasibility of the project. If successful, full development could result in up to 216 production wells and 72 dedicated injection wells within a 720-acre portion of the Antelope Creek oilfield, at a maximum well density of one well every 2.5 acres. Wells will be drilled using small, truck-mounted drilling rigs. Some injection wells will be built as dedicated injection wells and others will be built as cyclic, or huff‘n’puff, wells that are designed to cycle back and forth between steam injection and oil production.

The Draft Permit requirements are tentative and open to comment from any interested party. Copies of the Draft Permit and it’s Statement of Basis fact sheet are available for review at the environmental offices of the Ute Indian Tribe, in the Fish and Wildlife Building at Fort Duchesne Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. [call (435) 722-9341 or (435) 722-9910] Copies also may be requested from the EPA.

If you want to comment on the Draft Permit, please submit your comments in writing, either by mail or by email so that they are received by the EPA no later than midnight January 16, 2007. Please submit your comments or request for copies to:
