"We congratulate these Energy Star award winners for their leadership in saving energy and resources, and helping fight climate change," said Cheryl Newton, director of EPA Region 5's Air and Radiation Division. "They are helping the environment and their bottom line."
With the help of Energy Star, Americans saved $19 billion on their energy bills in 2008 and avoided greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those of 29 million vehicles. To date, 940,000 new homes and more than 6,000 office buildings, schools, hospitals and public buildings have earned the Energy Star. Since 2000, more than 2.5 billion Energy Star qualified products have been sold.
EPA introduced the Energy Star program in 1992 as a voluntary partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase energy efficiency. Today, the program offers businesses and consumers energy-efficient solutions to save energy, money and help protect the environment for future generations.
