During a November 17 ceremony in the Capitol Building, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) presented 10 Regional Administrator's Environmental Excellence Awards to 21 recipients.

"These awards are a wonderful reminder of the many people and organizations who are working to protect our environment and the public health. It's nice to be able to recognize a few of these committed people who are making a positive difference in all our lives," EPA Deputy Assistant Regional Administrator for Management Sam Becker said.

Arkansas Department of Pollution Control and Ecology Director Randall Mathis also participated in the ceremony and said the fact that award recipients include both private sector and government entities serves to reinforce the cooperation which exists among government regulatory agencies, the regulated community and conservation groups.

"We have made a concerted effort in Arkansas to establish and maintain a good working relationship involving all parties who are interested in preserving The Natural State and its resources, and the individual and groups recognized by these awards should be proud of the roles they have played in those efforts," Mathis said.

During the ceremony winners were given plaques, Environmental Excellence flags and Environmental Excellence pins.
