(Boston, Mass. – Jan. 27, 2011) – Peter Eldridge, Superintendent of the West Warwick, R.I. Wastewater Treatment Plant, was recently honored with the "2010 Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Award" by EPA.
EPA’s New England office formally acknowledged Mr. Eldridge’s contributions during the annual New England Water Environment Association Conference at the Boston Copley Marriott Hotel on January 26th. Mr. Eldridge’s nomination was highly recommended by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management.
The EPA award program recognizes municipal personnel in the wastewater field who have provided invaluable public service operating wastewater treatment facilities throughout New England. Mr. Eldridge has been with the West Warwick Wastewater Treatment Facility for over 20 years and has been serving as the Superintendent for the past three years. He has been a dedicated professional protecting the water quality and public health of Rhode Island’s citizens. During the past year, Mr. Eldridge, along with many others in West Warwick and the State of Rhode Island, was instrumental in overseeing the recovery of the entire treatment plant from the devastating spring flood of 2010.
“The professionals managing and operating wastewater treatment plants play a crucial role protecting health in our communities and ensuring that our lakes and rivers are protected from unnecessary pollution,” said Curt Spalding, regional administrator for EPA's New England Office. "I am proud to acknowledge Mr. Eldridge’s outstanding contributions to help protect public health and Rhode Island’s waterways for so many years.”
