Air Sampling and Monitoring Show No Health Risk in Iowa Communities

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Kansas City, Kan., July 14, 2008) - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's air sampling for asbestos and air monitoring for particulates in the cities of Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids, Fort Madison, Iowa City, Keokuk, Montrose, Oakville, Parkersburg, and Waterloo, Iowa, have shown no health risk.

EPA's sampling and monitoring activities continue in Cedar Rapids, Oakville and Parkersburg where cleanup activities are ongoing and where demolitions may occur. Sampling and monitoring activities have been discontinued in other Iowa locations.

As analytical results for asbestos sampling and particulate level monitoring become available, reports have been posted on the EPA Region 7 Web site.
