(Kansas City, Kan., July 17, 2008) - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today welcomed the Vermeer Corporation, a manufacturer of agricultural, construction, environmental and industrial equipment, as the newest member of its Performance Track program in Region 7.
Established in 2000, EPA's Performance Track program recognizes and drives environmental excellence by encouraging businesses and organizations with already-strong environmental records to exceed their legal requirements for environmental compliance.
Vermeer, based in Pella, Iowa, has completed three improvement projects that went above and beyond the company's projections, all in the first year of its three-year Performance Track membership commitment. The firm reduced non-hazardous wastes going to the landfill, reduced water use for its entire facility, and reduced air pollution by improving its welding equipment.
"All of these results were accomplished within Vermeer's environmental management system," EPA Region 7 Administrator John Askew said, formally recognizing CEO Mary Andringa during ceremonies today at the company's headquarters in Pella. "We are proud to have Vermeer Corporation as a member of the Performance Track program."
Performance Track member organizations typically set four public, measurable goals to improve the quality of our nation's air, water, and land. Members include major corporations, small businesses, and public facilities that are steering a course toward environmental excellence.
