Project Title & Description
FOLLOW-UP ANALYSIS FOR NEW POTENTIAL TOXIC CHEMICALS
This is a supplemental increase which will continue the work that led to the development of a database of over 22,000 chemicals that are used commercially in Canada and the United States. The database allowed for the identification of a list of priority chemicals that are unrecognized persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic (PBT) chemicals that may be detected in the Great Lakes and other surface waters. This list of chemicals has been used by researchers to develop analytical methods to detect new chemicals in the Great Lakes and other surface waters. The proposed project will focus on unique commercial chemicals that are reported in the EPA 2006 Inventory Update Rule (IUR) (estimated to be about 1500 chemicals). The new IUR list of chemicals also has use information which is often difficult to find and this will be used for selecting potentially new, unrecognized PBT chemicals and for use/release analysis of chemicals already identifyd.
