Project Title & Description
AMERICAN LUNG ASSOCIATION - ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH INITIATIVE
This grant wiill be used to support Asthma and Environmental Tobacco Smoke programs in Fort Wayne, Allen County and the surrounding counties of: Adams, DeKalb, Huntington, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wells and Whitley. The focus of the program will be those in the low-income and underserved populations that do not have the financial ability and/or education to reduce or improve the environmental triggers within their home and school surroundings. The American Lung Association's Open Airways for Schools is already implemented into a number of schools throughout Indiana and will be implemented in the counties listed above. Implementing Open Airways for Schools would provide a program to reduce the frequency of asthma episodes and reduce the number of urgent visits to the emergency department. This program will also provide education on asthma management and asthma prevention to asthmatics, their families and school personnel.
