Project Title & Description
Fish and Water Advisories Community Education Program
The purpose of this project is to improve environmental and public health by increasing awareness of community residents in the Harlem section of Manhattan, New York on the dangers of contaminants in local fish, and by increasing community involvement in local fisheries facing climate change. The South Street Seaport Museum will educate the community members on the causes and effects of the water pollution in their local rivers; how contaminants, such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), Cadmium and Mercury, accumulate in the food chain; and the impact of climate change on natural resources of the local ecosystem.
