Project Title & Description
Acountability and Credibility Together
The targeted zip codes in Cincinnati have the major predictive factors for lead poisoning; residents are 50% below the poverty level, 24% are of minority population, and 71.1% of housing was built before 1970.
The blood lead screening level is below 50% in the targeted areas. The Hamilton County Lead Poisoning & Testing Collaborative (HCC) proposes to implement three broad objectives:
1) coordinated enhanced outreach and education about lead hazards and their effects on young children, to include training of targeted tenants and homeowners in the proper inspection and maintenance of lead-contaminated housing;
2) increased screening (up from 50% to 70%) of both Medicaid and non-Medicaid eligible children to age 72 months, and coordinated follow-up for treatment of identified cases with elevated blood lead levels; and
3) development and expansion of the Hamilton County Collaborative.
