Eighty-two percent of Kitsap County’s shoreline is developed. Individual and cumulative development impacts, including shoreline armoring, can significantly degrade ecological processes. Bulkheads, especially, impede natural shoreline processes. By building relationships and discussing property and structure safety, habitat conditions, and potential restoration and enhancement actions, Kitsap County will work with willing landowners to remove bulkheads, restoring sediment supplies to priority nearshore areas. The County will integrate this work with their Shoreline Master Program update.
