Project Title & Description
Indoor Air Quality
This award provides funds to the recipient to improve the indoor air quality of the homes of Native Americans in several Tribal communities through the implementation of a second hand smoke awareness campaign. The recipient will use training and education materials previously developed that have been adapted to the Native American culture. The recipient will work with partners such as the Indian Health Service and individual Tribal health offices in a media/outreach campaign that will cause adults to be aware of how second hand smoke affects the indoor air environment of their homes, and how it affects the children that are exposed to the second hand smoke. Health based outcomes include reduced lung cancer risk and reduced incidence of asthma and other respiratory ailments. This is a grant because the activities will not require substantial federal involvement.
