Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant Fund (AFIG)

Description
The Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant Fund provides funding for alternative fuel vehicle (AFV) programs to aid in the purchase of alternative fuel vehicles, conversion of existing vehicles to operate on an alternative fuel, purchase and installation of alternative fuel refueling and recharging facilities, and research and development of innovative alternative fuel vehicles.
Amounts
The Fund receives about $3.5 - 4 million annually from the tax on the gross receipts of utilities.
An applicant is eligible for up to 20% of his or her costs.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants for incentive grants are school districts, municipal authorities, political subdivisions, nonprofit entities, corporations or partnerships incorporated or registered in the Commonwealth, and Pennsylvania residents.
Application Deadline
Applications accepted from February to April, 2003 (deadlines TBA) and from July to October 1, 2003. Proposals must be submitted before any costs are incurred.

General Public Utilities (GPU), West Penn Power Company, Pennsylvania Electric Company (PECO), and Pennsylvania Power & Light (PP&L) each maintain a "Sustainable Energy Fund" with the goals of promoting the development and use of renewable energy and advanced clean energy technologies, energy conservation and efficiency, and sustainable energy businesses within Pennsylvania.
