Technologies and Policy Options

States across the nation have been actively evaluating policies and technologies that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. These policies and technologies span a broad range of GHG sectors. They also cover a spectrum of commitment, ranging from recommendation to research to full-scale policy and technology implementation. A few have been designed specifically to reduce GHG emissions; the vast majority, however, aim at energy efficiency or pollution control as their primary targets and produce GHG emission reductions as a "co-benefit."

EPA is presently updating the database on states actions affecting GHG emissions to enable state decision-makers to obtain information on the types of policies that are under consideration by their colleagues. EPA has also compiled a series of short papers in PDF format (about PDF), which describe various technology and policy options to reduce GHG emissions:
