Software

Interactive software applications are available online to measure and analyze energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions and evaluate emission reduction opportunities. The software applications presented here vary greatly in complexity, scope, and intent. A brief description of each is provided to help you select one that meets your needs.

The following links to non-EPA sites do not imply any official EPA endorsement. EPA does not accept any responsibility for the opinions, ideas, data or products presented at those locations, or guarantee the validity of the information provided.

  • The Emissions Generation Resource Integrated Database (E-GRID)
E-GRID provides air pollutant emission and resource mix information for individual plants, companies, states, and regions. It is available for download as a stand-alone program (13.3-15.4 MB) or as a set of spreadsheets (6.4-8.5 MB).
  • ENERGY STARŪ for Business
A set of software programs developed by EPA including: QuikPlan (building upgrades), QuikChill (chiller plant upgrades), QuikFan (variable air volume upgrades), ProjectKalc (lighting upgrades) and EPA Refrigerator Analysis Program, allow users to plan, manage, track, and report energy-efficiency upgrades in their facilities. Results include energy and economic analysis of the upgrades. Online tools are provided for developing, tracking, and evaluating your organization's approach to reducing energy costs over time and comparing your buildings' energy performance to that of similar buildings throughout the US. Online registration is required to download the software.
  • Waste Reduction Model (WARM)
WARM calculates and totals greenhouse gas emissions of baseline and alternative waste management practices. Available online and as a downloadable Microsoft Excel spreadsheet application (779 kb download).

  • Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) Software Exit EPA
A set of tools that compare potential energy conservation measures by performing complex energy consumption analyses and modeling, as well as comparative life-cycle cost analyses. The tools are intended to help project designers choose conservation measures that are the most cost effective and environmentally friendly. Included at this site are: the Building Life-Cycle Cost program (BLCC), the Facility Energy Design System (FEDS), the Federal Lighting Energy Expert (FLEX), the Federal Renewable Energy Screening Assistant (FRESA), the Lighting System Screening Tool (LSST), the Lighting Technology Screening Matrix (LTSM), and Watergy. BLCC, FLEX, FRESA and Watergy can be downloaded from the FEMP website. FEDS, LSST and LTSM are available to federal personnel only and can be ordered online or by calling 800-DOE-EREC (800-363-3732).
  • MotorMaster Exit EPA
MotorMaster is a software program that analyzes motor and motor system efficiency. It was designed for utility auditors, industrial plant energy coordinators, and consulting engineers. MotorMaster can be used to identify inefficient or oversized facility motors and compute the energy and demand savings associated with selection of a replacement energy-efficient model. The program was developed by the Washington State University Cooperative Extension Energy Program and is funded (as a part of the Motor Challenge Program) by the U.S. Department of Energy. Users must complete a free online registration before they can download the software. A limited online version of the program is also available.
