USDA's Biobased Products and Bioenergy Program finances technologies needed to convert biomass into biobased products and bioenergy in a manner which is cost-competitive in large national and international markets. The program is part of the Rural Business-Cooperative Service (RBS). Loans for biomass conversion into biobased products and bioenergy are eligible for financing under the Business and Industry Guaranteed and Direct Loan Programs. Rural Business Opportunity Grants Title Rural Business Opportunity Grants Office/Region USDA Rural Business Cooperative Program Description Rural Business Opportunity Grants fund private sector and community-based organizations to assist projects that create or preserve quality jobs and/or promote a clean rural environment. Financial resources of the Rural Business Cooperative Program are often leveraged with those of other public and private credit source lenders to meet business and credit needs in under-served areas. Amounts $5.1 million available total; average grant was $50,000 in 2002. EPA Regions All Eligibility Local governments in rural areas of 50,000 inhabitants or fewer.
