This Web site provides information on Extended Product Responsibility, a product-centered approach to environmental protection involving manufacturers, retailers, consumers, and governments. The Web site discusses several government, industry, and international initiatives for minimizing the environmental impact of various products. In addition, the Web site provides links to related Web sites and downloadable publications.

Source Reduction
This Web site provides links to various Web sites and downloadable publications related to waste prevention. Several publications describe various methods for communities and individuals to reduce solid waste. Other publications discuss public and private programs that successfully reduce waste generation. The publications include documents issued by the U.S. EPA, private organizations, and state agencies.

This Web site describes a series of annual publications characterizing municipal solid waste in the United States. The Web site provides downloadable copies of reports for 1995 through 1999. The Web site also provides a downloadable copy of the latest publication, the 2000 Update, which contains information on municipal solid waste generation, recovery, disposal, and management from 1960 to 2000. The 2000 Update also includes information on the content of municipal solid waste in 2000.

Recycling
This Web site provides links to various Web sites and downloadable publications related to recycling. The publications discuss several topics, including environmental claims on product labels and the benefits of recycling used oil, consumer products, and grass clippings. In addition, several publications provide guidance for businesses and individuals interested in implementing recycling programs.

Reusable News
This Web site provides downloadable copies of "Reusable News", a newsletter containing articles about solid waste reduction and recycling. The newsletter describes various efforts by public and private organizations throughout the United States to promote waste reduction and recycling. The newsletter also provides information about related Web sites and publications. Issues from 1994 through 2003 are available for download.

WasteWise Sustainability Update (1.4Mb pdf)
This 13-page publication describes the evolution of environmental strategies from waste management to waste prevention. The issue discusses methods for establishing sustainable systems of materials use, in which producers and consumers use waste generated by other producers and consumers. The publication also provides examples of companies using sustainable business practices.
