Gateway Council of Governments Air Toxics/Environmental Justice Project

Printer-friendly version

This is a pilot program which provides a non-regulatory, incentive-based approach to reducing diesel emissions. The focus will be on reductions from heavy duty trucks that operate in the Gateway Cities sub-region. Help will be given to owners of heavy-duty vehicles in the area to offset the cost of buying trucks and fuels or retrofitting existing equipment. In addition, educational materials for owner/operators will be developed discussing properties of different clean fuels and the availability of engines, vehicles, retrofits, components (fueling systems) and fueling infrastructure. Guidelines for eligibility criteria, reporting requirements and the incentive structure are prepared in draft and await approval. They will be sent to fleet operators that express interest in participating in the project.
