Barrio Logan Environmental Justice Demonstration Project

Printer-friendly version

The Barrio Logan community is a low-income Latino community, criss-crossed by two major freeways and is subject to the release of 3 million pounds of toxic air pollution from numerous small industries, large shipyards, and naval installations adjacent to the area. This study will consist of air monitoring, conducting clinical studies on asthma, educating community residents on the links between environmental pollution and health problems, and identifying opportunities for pollution prevention, source reduction of hazardous waste, better land use practices, and environmental law enforcement, inspection, and permitting, in Barrio Logan.
