STATE

State Actions List
States across the nation have been actively evaluating policies and technologies that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. These policies and technologies span a broad range of GHG sectors. They also cover a spectrum of commitment, ranging from recommendation to research to full-scale policy and technology implementation. A few have been designed specifically to reduce GHG emissions; the vast majority, however, aim at energy efficiency or pollution control as their primary targets and produce GHG emission reductions as a "co-benefit."
EPA compiled this database on states actions affecting GHG emissions to enable state decision-makers to obtain information on the types of policies that are under consideration or being implemented by their colleagues. Although the database focuses primarily on actions motivated by state governments, it also includes local (i.e., county and municipal level) activities that are often conducted in partnership with the state or through a state grant.
The query options below make it easy to select and sort information from the database. For example, one can determine which states have implemented a specific policy or which policies are being considered by a selected state. Queries can be run by entering a single keyword (e.g., "energy" or "recycling") or by selecting one or more policies, sectors, or states from the "drop-down" lists provided. Because policies and sectors are linked, it is best to query for one or the other -- that is, if you wish to search on a specific policy, choose "all sectors;" if you wish to search on a specific sector, choose "all policies."
The results of your query will be displayed on a table. The query options ask you to choose how to sort them (note that the primary and secondary sort variables need to be different). The query results table identifies state/policy/sector combinations that have case studies available, and provides a link to these case studies.
Please note that the State Actions database has been developed using readily available publications and information, and we recognize that it may not be completely current and accurate. To report additions and/or report errors, please e-mail the EPA GlobalWarming webmaster.
