Development of an Economics-Based Methodology for Projecting Future Pollution Problems
Number of Pages:
The purpose of this study was to develop a comprehensive and systematic method for predicting where future toxic substance pollution problems are expected to occur. The approach was to rank products according to their potential for creating future pollution problems. For the high ranked products, additional information on the chemical constituents was identified. The final step was to analyze the chemical constituents to determine which chemicals occur the most frequently and in the largest quantities. The potential for each of these chemicals to result in a toxic substance problem was also assessed. Finally, the methodology was applied to the Chemicals and Allied Products sector to identify future problems from that sector.
