Post-Doctoral Fellowships for Environmental Health Scientists

The US EPA’s National Center for Environmental Economics (NCEE) is seeking post-doctoral candidates interested in the relationship between environment contaminants and human health. Positions are located in Washington, DC.

NCEE conducts original research in environmental economics and environmental health that informs policy development at EPA. NCEE scientists also provide risk assessment information to support decision-making, participate in regulatory development activities, and develop environmental health indicators. Examples of the work by NCEE scientists include: a national evaluation of public health risks from ambient air toxics; America's Children and the Environment, EPA's report on indicators of children's environmental health; epidemiologic studies of air pollution and health effects in children; assessments of exposure to mercury and the associated risks; and papers on particular aspects of human health risk assessment. NCEE staff have published their work in journals such as The Lancet, Environmental Health Perspectives, Risk Analysis, and Environmental Research.

These positions involve conducting original research in the field of environmental epidemiology or risk assessment, expert review of hazard assessments and risk assessments of environmental contaminants, and contributing to the review and development of policies related to environmental health. These positions also provide opportunities to advise senior-level EPA officials on important health and science policy issues at the Agency.

Applicants should have recently received or be nearing completion of their Ph.D. in toxicology, epidemiology, biostatistics, risk assessment, public health, or related fields.

All applicants should have high academic standing. Salaries are competitive. U.S. citizenship is required. Individuals wishing to be considered should send a resume, writing sample, transcripts, and at least two letters of recommendation by April 11, 2007 to:
