EPA's National Center for Environmental Economics (NCEE) in the Office of Policy, Economics and Innovation in Washington D.C. (www.epa.gov/economics) has posted
SIX new announcements for permanent economist positions in our office. NCEE is EPA’s center of expertise for cutting-edge research and analysis in environmental economics.
These positions involve conducting original research on economic and related analytic methods; providing technical advice and assistance to EPA offices and other parties on such methods; leading production of cross-Agency economic reports; and promoting consistency in the preparation and presentation of economic information in the Agency.

JOB SUMMARIES:
These positions are located in the Office of the Administrator, Office of Policy, Economics & Innovation, National Center for Environmental Economics, (NCEE), with either the Research & Program Support Division (RPSD) or the Benefits Assessment and Methods Development Division (BAMDD).
The staff is responsible for promoting the integration of environmental policy with economic and social policy in order to advance environmental protection, economic well-being, and a sustainable future. Founded in 1970, EPA is a dynamic organization employing people from diverse backgrounds dedicated to improving and preserving the quality of public health and the environment. EPA seeks to recruit exceptional men and women who will work in new creative ways that are cleaner for the environment, cheaper for business and taxpayers, and smarter for America's future.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Incumbent initiates, conducts and reviews benefit-cost and other economic analyses of proposed Agency policies and regulations in order to help design and evaluate standards and programs that maximize net social benefits as required by Executive Order 12866, giving consideration to distributional effects (e.g., regulatory impacts on small businesses and governments) and quantitative cost-benefit information. Performs professional research, applies scientific methods including identifying and conceptualizing
research/study needs, planning study approach, collecting and analyzing data and preparing detailed interpretation of result findings.Participates with senior level economists in managing, coordinating major research/study projects, uses computer application models and works closely with contractors on timelines, methodologies and other pertinent issues.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in economics, that includes at 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus, or combination of education and experience: Successful completion of courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
1. Knowledge of environmental, natural resource, or agricultural economics;
2. Ability to apply economic analysis to environmental benefit-cost issues;
3. Skill in applying research methods such as market revealed and direct methods used to prepare economic analyses;
4. Skill in writing research reports and working papers;
5. Ability to collect and integrate economic data for economic studies.
6. Skill in using automated statistical applications (e.g., SAS, Limdep, GAUSS, Stata, S-Plus-, TSP SPSS) to conduct quantititative economic analysis to produce findings;

Openings for Economist Post-Doctoral Fellows (forthcoming in January 2008)

(www.epa.gov/economics) is accepting applications for Post Doctoral Fellows. NCEE is EPA’s center of expertise for cutting-edge research and analysis in environmental economics.
The type of position involves conducting original research on economic and related analytic methods; providing technical advice and assistance to EPA offices and other parties on such methods; leading production of cross-Agency economic reports; and promoting consistency in the preparation and presentation of economic information in the Agency. Specific research projects will be designed as appropriate to the selected candidate's expertise and interests, and the needs of OPEI/NCEE. The post-doctoral appointment has a term of two years, with possible renewal for a maximum of four years.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in economics or a related field. Benefit-cost analysis skills and research experience in environmental, natural resource, or agricultural economics or related fields are required. Areas of particular interest include stated preference methods, general equilibrium modeling, technology change, and voluntary program evaluation.

EPA's National Center for Environmental Economics (NCEE) is accepting applications for permanent Economist positions; temporary (1-2 year) Post Docs and Visiting Faculty seeking sabbatical opportunities; and temporary two-year Research Assistant positions. NCEE is EPA's center of expertise for cutting-edge research and analysis in environmental economics (www.epa.gov/economics).
Applicants seeking to fill permanent Economist and Post Doc positions will need to have completed a Ph.D. in a field of economics by spring 2009. The Visiting Faculty position offers academics an opportunity to work at NCEE for a temporary period of time (9-12 months) as part of a planned sabbatical. Faculty interested in this kind of appointment could start their assignment as early as May 2009. Benefit-cost analysis skills and research experience in environmental, natural resource, agricultural, or related applied microeconomic fields are required. Some of the research areas NCEE is looking for individuals having skills and experience in include: integrated physical science and economic modeling; treatment of uncertainty and decision science methods; computable general equilibrium modeling; and valuation of the economic benefits of protecting human health and ecological services from environmental risks. Salaries for all of the above positions are competitive. U.S. citizenship is required for individuals seeking to fill the Permanent, Post Doc and Research Assistant positions.
