Wetlands

EPA’s Region 10 Office covers wetlands in the states of Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington, as well as hundreds of Tribes. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers administers the permit program, while EPA develops and interprets policy, guidance and environmental criteria used in evaluating the permit applications. EPA reviews and comments on individual permit applications and has the authority to elevate or deny applications for fill. Both the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and EPA have roles and responsibilities in enforcement (PDF) (2 pp. 687K).
