What is the Outer Continental Shelf?

The Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) refers to federal submerged lands that lie seaward of the states' jurisdiction (generally three nautical miles from the shoreline).

Summary: EPA proposed a draft Title V Clean Air Act permit on July 22, 2011, for ConocoPhillips to explore for oil and gas in the Chukchi Sea on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS).

ConocoPhillips withdrew their air permit application on Sept. 26, 2011 and submitted a new air permit application Dec. 1, 2011. On Jan. 27, 2012, ConocoPhillips withdrew their air permit application. Read the Withdraw Letter from ConocoPhillips (PDF) (1 pp, 362K).
