Reports And Data
In 1994, Region 10 began a partnership with the EPA Office of Research and Development and the states to begin to use an EMAP-type sampling approach in Region 10. This project was called Regional EMAP (REMAP), and it uses the same indicators (with minor variations) and sample design as Western EMAP. In Region 10, REMAP projects have been conducted in the: Coast Range Ecoregion (OR and WA) and Washington, Yakima basin (WA), Upper Deschutes (OR) basin, Upper Chehalis (WA) and the Western Cascades Ecoregion (OR and WA).
An important aspect of Region 10's Rivers and Streams component is the continued partnership with the states and tribes within the region. The states of Oregon and Washington have applied the EMAP approach and have found that it is useful for evaluating stream conditions and for developing biomonitoring criteria. These states have incorporated the EMAP approach into existing environmental monitoring programs to protect water resources and to collect data for long-term understanding of these systems. In 2001, the state of Idaho and in 2002, the Nez Perce Tribe began to participate in EMAP.
