Region 10 hydrogeologists provide expertise for multiple disciplines. These disciplines include geology, hydrology and geochemistry, among others. Typically the hydrogeologist works towards developing conceptual models that are used in characterizing the fate and transport of the targeted elements or compounds of interest. Hydrogeologists work with various media, including surface water, ground water, and surface and subsurface rocks, soils and sediments.
Duties performed by Region 10 Hydrogeologists include:
- Our Hydrogeologists work in teams with human health and ecological risk assessors to characterize, investigate, document and remediate environmental problems.
- Through the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review process, our Hydrogeologists address and attempt to prevent environmental problems before they occur.
- Our Hydrogeologists provide technical support in hydrogeology, contaminant fate and transport, and geochemistry to all the regional media programs (Hazardous Waste, Water , Air, Pesticides, and NEPA).
- Work with other EPA Regions and Headquarters through the Ground Water Forum.
- Provide international technical support on as requested basis (e.g., Latvia, Lithuania, USSR & Uzbekistan and Brazil).
