Lower Duwamish Waterway Cleanup Study
Draft Cleanup Study available for review and comment.

As part of the cleanup process for the Lower Duwamish Waterway, the Lower Duwamish Waterway Group (City of Seattle, King County, Port of Seattle, and The Boeing Company) is investigating alternatives for cleaning up sediment contamination. The cleanup alternatives are described in a report called a Feasibility Study. The Feasibility Study describes:

  • Areas of the waterway where sediment cleanup is needed;
  • Methods that could be used to clean up the sediment contamination.

You can take a look at the Feasibility Study as it develops and provide comments at any time to EPA, to the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition (the citizens advisory group for this site), or to the Lower Duwamish Waterway Group.

Feasibility Study timeline:

The first draft of the Feasibility Study was submitted to EPA and the Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) for their review in April 2009.

The second draft of the Feasibility Study is anticipated in early 2010. The second draft will incorporate feedback from the agencies in addition to important new data. EPA and Ecology will be actively engaged in public outreach when the second draft. After EPA and Ecology approve the final Feasibility Study, they will issue a Proposed Plan which will describe cleanup options and the agencies’ recommendation. The agencies will seek public comment on the Proposed Plan which is expected in 2011.
