The Silver Valley Gondola is the world's longest gondola ride, lasting 19 minutes and traveling 3.1 miles. It climbs 3,400 vertical feet. The carriages are capable of carrying eight people and can also carry bicycles.
State and local governments are still working together to diversify economies within the Bunker Hill Superfund site. Today, as an important first step toward that goal, the gondola project provides over 150 jobs to local residents.
Several buildings at the Bunker Hill complex were left standing for possible future light industrial use.
The concentrate handling building was left standing.
