Spokane School District Gets Indoor Air Quality Award

(January 14, 2010) - Spokane Public Schools has received EPA's National Model of Sustained Excellence Award. Representatives from Spokane Schools traveled to Washington DC to accept the award. This award acknowledges schools and school districts that provide outstanding indoor air quality for their students. Spokane Schools joins a select group of only 12 others in the nation to receive this award.

Research indicates that people spend approximately 90% of their time indoors, and air within homes and other buildings can be more seriously polluted than the outdoor air, even in the largest and most industrialized cities.

In addition, people who spend the most time indoors are often those most susceptible to health problems associated with indoor air pollution, such as young children, senior citizens, and people with chronic health conditions such as respiratory or cardiovascular disease.
