Description
Former General Data Comm, Waterbury, CT. The approximately 36 acre site is now divided into two separately owned properties, Parcel A and Parcel B. Parcel A is currently used to manufacture lighting fixtures. Parcel B is currently being developed as a retail store. The former owner of the site (Parcels A and B), Robertshaw Controls Company, manufactured components used in clocks, timing devices, and appliance controls from 1965 to May 1981. Wastewater from metal plating operations were treated and a metal hydroxide sludge effluent was pumped to a settling lagoon on Parcel A. Accumulated sludge was periodically moved to two sludge drying beds located on Parcel B. The sludge drying beds were excavated in 1980, and the settling lagoon was excavated in May 1981. Connecticut Technology Buildings Limited Partnership bought Parcel A in 1985. General Data Comm manufactured circuit boards on Parcel A from 1981 to 1988. In recent years, the owners of Parcel A have conducted remedial investigations and cleanup under the CTDEP Property Transfer Program. A proposal to conduct additional groundwater investigations was submitted to CTDEP and EPA in 2007. The owners of Parcel B have conducted soil and groundwater investigations and removed approximately 6,500 tons of contaminated soil from the former sludge drying beds in 1999.

Current Status
Parcel B is currently being developed as a retail store. The owners of Parcel A are preparing to conduct additional groundwater investigations in early 2008.
