Description
Kendro Laboratory Products in Newtown, CT manufactures medical centrifuges and other laboratory equipment and previously operated two dry wells for disposal of organic liquid wastes. Work is ongoing to investigate and clean-up contamination at the site.
Current Status
A site-wide remedial action plan (RAP) was public noticed on September 25, 2009 in the Danbury News Times. The RAP included excavation and off-site disposal of contaminated soil in combination with in-situ chemical oxidation and product recovery to remediate soils impacted with total petroleum hydrocarbons. This was followed by post remedial groundwater monitoring.
Based on results of groundwater monitoring following the initial round of in-situ chemical oxidation injection, an additional remediation is planned in the former waste oil and coolant under ground storage tank (UST) /metal chip bin area and oil room loading dock. Confirmation soil samples show that all of the areas (with the exception of the former waste oil and coolant UST/metal chip bin area and oil room loading dock which are being evaluated for additional remediation) are now in compliance with the Remediation Standard Regulations (RSRs), Section 22a-133k-1 through -3 of the Regulations of Connecticut State Agencies (RCSA).
