Current Status
A Phase 1 Targeted Brownfields Assessment (TBA) was completed on 8/16/1999. The city of Ledyard purchased the property in 1999. The site was cleanup/remediated sometime before 2001, except for some asbestos located in the abandoned buildings. Asbestos was cleaned up by the contractor, Weise, and completed remediation on 11/26/2001 (hired by city of Ledyard and the city used money from general funds.) Abandoned buildings were demolished in 1/2003 for free by a Ledyard resident who had a demolishing company. The city of Ledyard received a grant from the State Department of Environment Managament Long Island Sound License Plate funds to remove the demolished material. All of the demolished material was removed as of 4/2003. The city of Ledyard is currently redeveloping the site into a passive park / public space and a rededication ceremony will take place in the fall of 2003.
