Description
Vishay- Vitramon, a manufacturer of ceramic and porcelain chip capacitors, has operated at the approximately 13 acre site since 1960. Wastes generated include chlorinated solvents, acids, waste oil, lead, and nickel. CTDEP issued a Pollution Abatement Order in 1981 to install proper facilities for treatment and/or disposal of all waste generated and to install monitoring wells. Vitramon has been conducting quarterly groundwater monitoring under CTDEP oversight since 1994. Vitramon submitted a Phase II Environmental Site Assessment to EPA in 2004. In 2007, the facility submitted a work plan to conduct additional soil, groundwater, surface water, and sediment investigations.
